Juniata County is an agricultural power-house, boasting over 500 farms and producing nearly $200 million of agricultural products annually. All of that farmland, framed by forested mountains and the gentle flow of the Juniata River contribute to the area’s scenic appeal.

Ideal for recreation, the Juniata River can be accessed by numerous public boat launches, and its gentle flow is perfect for swimming, tubing downstream, and exploring in a kayak or canoe. The fishing here is great, especially for small-mouth bass. The county is home to numerous campsites, the largest of which is Buttonwood Campground, near Port Royal, whose riverside location is tailor-made for family fun.

Nearby, Port Royal Speedway, the premier dirt track raceway on the East Coast, is by far the area’s largest attraction, bringing tens of thousands of visitors to watch Sprint Car, Late Model and many other classes of racing.

Saturdays are the time to hit the Midway Drive-In Theatre Flea Market and search for new-to-you treasures. The county is home to four covered bridges. The Pomeroy-Academia Covered Bridge is the longest remaining covered bridge in the state, which spans nearly 273 feet.
