Amish
Living

Living quiet, peaceful lives, and forgoing many modern conveniences, a large Amish community calls this area home. Valuing a belief in God, a strong moral code and treasuring their families, they live a self-sustaining agricultural lifestyle, abstaining from television, video games and the internet. The time freed up each day allows craftsmen to hone their skills – locally handmade quilts, furniture, and art are spectacular.

Big Valley is home to the highest concentration of Amish and the many sects of their community, whose beliefs and customs vary, in a similar fashion to the various branches of the Protestant faiths. The area offers numerous opportunities to interact with and learn more about the Amish. Visit an Amish-owned greenhouse, retail shop, furniture store, produce farm, or stop by a local roadside stand or flea market.
